Our Mission

The Friends of Engine Three is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising funds to restore and maintain the 1928 American LaFrance fire engine of the St. Augustine Fire Department.

The organization was founded in 2015 as a result of presentations made by the then St. Augustine Fire Department Fire Chief J.C. Costiera asking for community support for the purchase and restoration of Engine Three. Several people pledged to support the acquisition and restoration with both political and financial support and, in a unique city/citizen arrangement, the city agreed to purchase the truck and the citizens group pledged to fund the restoration and maintenance.

In order to more efficiently perform fundraising functions, several of the people who pledged support formed a non-profit group, the Friends of Engine Three, Inc. We are the sole funding source for the restoration and maintenance of Engine Three, and work closely with the St. Augustine Fire Department. We assist the SAFD when the truck is displayed, provide historical and contextual information on the truck to the public, and provide advice and information on the restoration.
